If I had to choose just one … brunnera, it would be ‘Jack Frost’
By Lorraine • Jun 10th, 2010 • Category: Favourite Plants, Fresh Dirt, PlantsYou may prefer the creamy edges of Brunnera ‘Hadspen Cream’ or the gold-rimmed ‘King’s Ransom’ or even the silvery leaves of ‘Looking Glass’, but my heart will always be true to ‘Jack Frost’. It’s not just the snowy foliage (it reminds me of Frosted Flakes cereal — maybe it’s a nostalgia thing…), or those gorgeous forget-me-not blue flowers, it’s that ’Jack Frost’ is so vigorous and healthy, he just seems to be in love with life. I’ve divided mine several times over the four or five years I’ve grown this wonderful shade plant, and I think I’ll have to do it again this year. By comparison, ‘King’s Ransom’ looks smaller and more delicate than when I planted it last year, and ‘Looking Glass’ has yet to make an appearance this season. So, my desert island choice for Brunnera is definitely ‘Jack Frost’. Any takers?

Hi Lene,
You’re certainly in for a treat! I hope you enjoy your ‘Jack Frost’ as much as I do mine.
Cheers,
Lorraine
Lorraine, Today at the TBG Garden Tour you invited me to say “something mean” about Brunnera ‘Jack Frost’, and to be honest, I find it difficult to be critical about this great plant. Of course it’s everywhere, everyone seems to have it, although not always well grown. Was that mean?
Anyway, I love it, I wouldn’t be without it, I think it’s a beautiful plant. I am also curious about B. ‘Mr Morse., I’ve only seen it in pictures, but it looks interesting.
Hah! I knew it would be impossible to say something mean about ‘Jack Frost’! Hmm, and Mr. Morse intrigues me, too. Do you think they’re working their way through the detectives of British mystery novels? First, Jack Frost, then Morse — who’s next, “Miss Marple’?
